Ola, tis I. Trying to make good on my promise to check-in more frequently.
I confess: It was a real struggle to get here. There’s never a good time to “write”. I am too tired on weeknights and too busy on weekends. But I’ve got a free evening today, so I’m setting an arbitrary timer and come to type on a blank page. How freeing.

So, the update is this: The theme of this month (August) shall be rest.
I need some stillness after the whirlwinds of June and July. I ran hard, and now I just want to lie down. I don’t want to see anyone. I don’t want to go overseas. I want to crochet and watch The Rookie (skipping the stressful bits lol). So, I will make time for me to do that. I hope you give yourself permission to do that too.

A small reading update:
It’s been tough to sustain the momentum of June and July. I was reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, which is beautifully written but not exactly… plot driven. The word “snoozefest” comes to mind, but I would like to disclaim that it’s a very pleasant “snoozefest”, which I have also renewed at the library, mind you.
I also started reading the Wizard of Earthsea because I did read Ursula K. Le Guin’s Lavinia a few years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. To be honest, I really enjoy her writing style. But the main character of Earthsea was annoying me, which I think is kind of the point. But anyway, see momentum (loss of).
So, I’m trying to do a palate cleanser with Ramie Nightingale by Katie DiCamillo. I am fully aware that she is a children’s book writer, but she comes highly recommended by St Ann Patchett [praying emoji]. I read Because of Winn Dixie last month, and teared up quite a few times over it. It’s full of heart, and just broken people doing the best that they can, and hoping in each other ❤
But I think I am just feeling quite tired. And I’ll just leave it here. I’ll let myself be tired.
